Phase 1 Complete...

Phase 1 Complete...

Which means that after some extensive research we have finally found a company to help us with our email marketing campaigns. If you still have not found one to use for yourself, try out Mail Chimp.

So - this is about the third time or so I have sit down to write this newsletter. Either I am not comfortable with how it looks, or how it reads, or even what it contains. So we will just push on with some of the goings on around

Our activities of late include networking with at Lawrenceville Elementary School, setting up some time with Regina Elvis of Miracles of Massage to photograph their studio for the Gwinnett Magazine, having a wonderful time at the Artmore Hotel shooting a wedding for Julie and Lori Wood and shooting new and veteran dancers for Sean Christopher of Dancing4Fun at 550 Trackside.

And for those of you still sitting on the fence for family portraits, let me tell you, now is the time. Especially if you expect to get those cards in the mail before Christmas.

We have also been looking to make it easier for clients and customers to get our contact information. MICROSOFT TAGS! Here is a tag of our information and can be directly imported using this tag reader and the camera on your internet ready smart phone. Try it out! Open up the tag reader and pass the camera over the image - that's it, that's all there is to it!

Use your camera phone for "everyday" items.

See, for me, I don't do all of the shopping for the home. I am also not the best with names and stuff.

So when I was asked to go and pick something up at the store, I used the camera on my phone to take a picture of what it was I needed to get, like this one.......

Got to the store, picked up exactly what and I needed and "stayed out of the dog house"!!

So - I went to a social networking meeting this morning (thanks Tonya Cash and Lane Bailey) and learned some things about myself, my business techniques and social media.

What I am writing about today is using your tools. All of your tools, whether it be film cameras, digital point-and-shoots, digital slr's or even your built in camera phone.

I received an iPhone for Christmas and have only taken "snapshots" with the built in camera. Looking in more detail, I found I could take some fair, mind you - not awesome, but fair pictures with it.

Here is an example of my dog "Bear" sitting in my lap at home. Totally random, but the angle and lighting (2 whole other subjects) were just right that allowed me to capture this shot.

Well, we finally got a chance to get out, just the two of us, (Cynthia and I) and have some time together. Between work, school, her stuff, my stuff and all the "other stuff", getting some time together was needed. Speaking of "chance", we attended the "New Lawrenceville" network meeting at "Rita's Italian Ice" on the square in downtown and won a door prize to "Pura Enchilada" located at 252 West Pike Street, Lawrenceville.

We get to the restaurant and are greeted by the owners, order some drinks and they tell us a little bit about how their restaurant came to be. The story behind their cooking, their dream and where they see themselves in the future.

The atmosphere was great, a few tv's on the wall and the music was at just the right levels.

Now let's get down to the food. WOW - the food was awesome!! Well prepared, well displayed and well......gone. I say gone, but there was so much food we had to bring some of it home. Mmmm, lunch tomorrow!!

Some friends of ours decided to go on a balloon ride for her birthday. Tony gets a balloon ride for Nancy's birthday and have been waiting a couple months for a day to go. The weather finally cooperates and they ended up going yesterday. They could not have picked a more better day.

We travel off to Cumming Georgia and end up in an open field at the local Publix!! Yep - Publix! Right there next to the parking lot. We got to be there for the setup, blow-up and send-off.

Hair Riddles Grand Opening!

GRAND OPENING OF HAIR RIDDLES in Lawrenceville!!!! Well, grand opening at their new location anyway!

Dorothy Riddle opened up her hair salon for everyone to come and see her new location. While not officially there to photograph the event, I did take some snapshots. Oh yeah, I've been on a black&white kick lately so...you guessed it, they're in b&w.

Good food, good times and good music!! It was great seeing the community come out to celebrate with Hair Riddles!

Last night I got a chance to stop by The Goldsmith Jewelers to do some networking (and to see if I had won a prize/contest, I didn't). David Mell, the owner, was hosting an event to showcase their huge selection! They were offering door prizes to the ladies, some valued at nearly $200!

Guy and Barbara Shields 50th Wedding Anniversary

Bachelorette Party

After Adam and Rae's homecoming pictures last week, I photographed a bachelorette party for Creed Events by Melissa Creed featuring Linda Cash. This was a first for me photographing this type event. I figured it was pretty safe for me since Melissa said there were going to be kids there aging from 11-15. Good news for me because there would be "less of a chance" of surprises. Well, I guess the joke was on me because the "younger crowd" was talking about bringing up "ALL" the things you would normally expect to hear at this type of party. Here are some shots from the party.

Homecoming 2009

A couple of weeks ago my son (Adam) and his girlfriend (Rae) asked me to take their homecoming pictures. They were making arrangements for flowers, setting up dinner reservations and limo rides. They wanted to get together as a whole group (about 10-12) at the restaurant for their group shots. Oh what a nightmare that would have been; cars all in the background, strangers walking by, finding the right wall or space for the perfect shot. So, I decided that a nice park or other location would be better suited and we decided on the Gwinnett Civic Center.Here are some of the images from that shoot.

Angel Feet?

I was asked about creating an image that would be used on an owners business card as well as be able to display it in a larger format on the wall of her business. What a great honor I thought as I sat down and talked with Laura York of Angel Feet featuring Sacred Foot Washings (http://angelfeet.vpweb.com). (which, by the way, I have had and it was totally amazing!!!!) Laura describes to me that she wants two hands holding the feet of an infant; no jewelry; nothing to distract the essence of the scene cradling two young feet. She agrees to let me try to come up with something (I have just the perfect feet in mind! ) and here are a few of the results. The hands are Cindy's and the baby's feet are of my grandson Riley. I ultimately chose the one I like most and made different variants of that one shot.

Ultimately - she may not like any of these options and wish to choose something different. We'll see.

my Anniversary

On my 26th wedding anniversary, we went to downtown Lawrenceville and had dinner at Sperata's on the square. The wine and food were great. It was the last night of "restaurant week" and they were running a limited menu. The chicken dish was just awesome. We got downtown a little early to, you guessed it, take pictures!!!




After dinner we went over to McCray's for the benefit for Shannon Leach.

Great times were had by all the friends there!

The benefit included a silent auction with a vast majority of items.

Macon - part 2

Well - here we go again - to Macon that is. Except that this time I have to work later in the afternoon/evenings and have time in the morning to go picture hunting. I got to see the Ocmulgee National Monument this time around. I guess I was expecting a bit more when I got there - but hey - I didn't have to pay to get in! Here are a few shots from there......

OK - now get this one - I have seen plenty of signs on the roads telling you how far the next exit is.....3/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 1/4 mile....but....2/3's!!! I have NEVER before seen one like this.

Concert on the square!

Friday night we thought we would venture to downtown Lawrenceville with some friends and listen to the Shawn Mullins concert on the square. While we get there about 6:30, (the concert starts at 8), to have something to eat and hang out with our friends, I was able to capture some shots.

I ran into some other friends while we were there as well. See, I shoot pool on an APA (American Poolplayers Association) team and these guys are big fans.

The Dean's List!

So - my wife, Cindy, has been going to school at night at Shorter College. She has done amazingly well, even if she doesn't think so!
She received a certificate indicating that she had been placed on the Dean's List and I just wanted to share that with you all.

Macon - Day 4 - Cont.

As promised, here are some additional shots while touring downtown Macon. We walked around later after visiting St. Joesph's and found some very interesting culture and detail structured homes.

We also came across the birthplace of Sidney Lanier.

The architecture here reminded me of an "Adam's Family" or "Beetlejuice" house.

and finally the Hay House... The Johnston-Felton-Hay House, is a historic residence in Macon, Georgia. Built between 1855 and 1859 by William Butler Johnston and his wife Anne Tracy Johnston in the Italian Renaissance Revival style, the house has been called the "Palace of the South." The mansion sits atop Coleman Hill on Georgia Avenue in downtown Macon, near the Walter F. George School of Law, part of Mercer University.

Day 4 in Macon allowed me to hang out with Georgina and Brian Olson.

We checked out a few abandoned houses, nothing really spectacular until we traveled downtown. Here are some shots of St. Joseph's Catholic Church....
